Reading: Genesis 29:1-40:23
Today's reading covered the stories of Jacob and his family. Obviously the sons of Jacob have a major part in the rest of the Bible, so I focused on Genesis 35:23-26:
"The sons of Leah: Reuben the firstborn of Jacob, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun. The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin. The son's of Rachel's maidservant Bilhah: Dan and Naphtali. The sons of Leah's maidservant Zilpah: Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddam Aram."
Another piece of the puzzle was near the end of our reading today in Genesis 38. If you aren't familiar with the genealogy of King David and his descendant Jesus, then the name Tamar and the twin sons (Perez and Zerah) she bore to Judah may not mean anything to you yet, but within a couple of weeks they will show up in a very important way.
Blessings!
