Reading: Genesis 41:1-50:26
First, I just have to point out that it is Day 4 and each one of us should have finished Genesis today! How cool is it that in just 4 days we have already read one full book of the Bible.
One Day 1, I pointed out God's revelation and promise to Abraham about his descendants. Today's reading was the beginning of that time in a foreign country. I highlighted two verses today of Joseph speaking with his brothers.
And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. - Genesis 45:5
You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the savings of many lives. - Genesis 50:20
I found it interesting that Joseph - one of the youngest of Jacob's children - was the most wise of his brothers. He was the only one who saw that it was God who planned for him to be in Egypt when his family would need to be rescued from a famine. It is also interesting that almost 20 years take place between those two conversations and it had been over 30 years since his brothers had sold him to the traders.
Obviously they felt much guilt for what they'd done and were always afraid of what Joseph would do once their father was gone. Joseph on the other hand, realized that even though he'd been sold away from his family and had served time in prison in a foreign land that he was there for a reason. He refused to look back and allow the past to have a hold on him, instead choosing to look at the positives that had come out of it - being able to provide for his family while being reunited with them.
